LEXUS UX

Lexus has endowed its UX compact urban SUV range with upgrades to the full self-charging hybrid UX 250h. As one of the brand’s best-selling local models, the UX has won the hearts of younger customers and first-time buyers in the luxury segment, with its electrified powertrains considered one of the critical decision factors for UX buyers.

Built on its GA-C global architecture platform, the Lexus UX combines excellent refinement and quietness levels with dynamic characteristics, offering the security of a crossover/SUV and the driving quality of a hatchback.

Available in three model grades (EX, SE, and F Sport, all exclusively hybrid-powered), the Lexus UX 250h is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor that delivers 135 kW and a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 8.5 seconds. The vehicle boasts a laudable fuel economy of 4.5-l/100 km combined, and CO2 emissions of just 103 g/km.

SMOOTH AS SILK

Leaning heavily on the brand’s experience crafting luxurious SUVs, and while the UX is the smallest Lexus cross/SUV, it boasts a smooth and stable ride, cabin roominess, and a 10.4 m kerb-to-kerb turning diameter, making it easy to manoeuvre and park.

The UX benefits from a low centre of gravity, achieved partly by locating the battery beneath the floor under the rear seats in the UX 250h and using lightweight aluminium for the side doors, wings, and bonnet, and composite materials for the tailgate.

Lexus offers the F Sport package as standard with a UX-tailored version of the new high-response Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system that debuted on the Lexus LC and LS flagship coupe and sedan. The system increases damping force to minimise roll when cornering or changing lanes and reduces damping force in straight-line driving to preserve ride quality. With AVS, the vehicle’s Drive Mode Selector adds the Sport S+ mode, which activates the system. The F Sport-exclusive cabin features include front sports seats with a highly supportive integrated-foaming technique first developed for Lexus F models.

BETTER MULTIMEDIA

The UX’s multimedia system has also been upgraded, promising faster response with a more intuitive interface and increased functionality. There is a 12.3” display, and the new touchscreen technology replaces the previous trackpad control. The new display sits 143 mm further forward on the instrument panel, bringing it closer to the driver for comfortable operation.

The multimedia system is also equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing seamless smartphone integration. For additional convenience, a wireless charging tray is available in the centre console, allowing drivers to keep their smartphones charged without having to deal with cables.

LEXUS SAFETY SYSTEM+

The UX 250h also benefits from the latest Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) version, a suite of active safety technologies designed to help prevent accidents or mitigate their effects. The new LSS+ features include Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), which helps keep the vehicle centred in its lane; Road Sign Assist (RSA), to detect and display road signs on the instrument cluster; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC); Pre-Collision System (PCS) that uses a camera and radar to detect potential collisions and apply the brakes if necessary. The range-topping F Sport also adds Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

To further distinguish the F Sport model, Lexus has added a new bi-tone paintwork option, combining a black roof with one of three body colours: white, blue, or silver. The two-tone effect gives the UX 250h F Sport a more dynamic and sportier look while emphasising its unique character.

LAST WORD

The Lexus UX 250h range upgrades enhance an already impressive compact urban SUV offering. The self-charging hybrid powertrain provides excellent performance and fuel efficiency, while the latest multimedia and safety technologies make the UX 250h even more enjoyable and safe to drive.

The F Sport model offers a sportier driving experience, thanks to its Adaptive Variable Suspension system and exclusive interior and exterior features.

Overall, the Lexus UX 250h is an excellent choice for those looking for a luxury compact SUV that is both practical and enjoyable to drive. The combination of Lexus’ renowned quality and reliability, the latest hybrid powertrain technology, and advanced multimedia and safety features make the UX 250h a standout in its class.
