OUR JOURNEY WITH RED VELVET BEGINS

FORD TERRITORY TITANIUM 1.8L ECOBOOST 7AT

When the keys to the Ford Territory Titanium 1.8L EcoBoost 7AT in its dazzling Ruby Red finish landed in our hands a couple of weeks ago, we instantly knew it was the beginning of a shared adventure. Our family of seven instantly fell for it, and thanks to the kids (and my well-known obsession with red velvet cupcakes), the car was affectionately christened “Red Velvet”.

While only four of us (three school-bound kids and one adult) travel in it daily, Red Velvet has quickly become part of our everyday rhythm, shaping the tempo of early morning school runs, afternoon pick-ups, and the occasional weekends away. It’s been our winter cocoon, weekday warrior, and weekend wingman, and we’re only just getting started.

The first thing that caught our attention was the colour – a deep, velvety Ruby Red that shimmers and shifts with the sunlight, turning every school run or coffee stop into a little moment of joy.

Beyond the colour, the Territory’s confident design speaks volumes. Its sculpted body, sleek LED lights, and 19″ alloy wheels come together to create a vehicle that feels both premium and practical, just right for a family that’s always on the go.

COMFORT MADE FOR CHAOS

Inside, the Titanium trim turns chaos into calm. The soft-touch materials, leatherette seating, and panoramic sunroof create an airy, peaceful space even when the kids are in full chatty mode. It’s stylish, yes, but also functional and family-proof.

With three kids on board during every ride, rear seat space is a lifesaver. The reclining seats are a quiet game-changer for naptime, and clever storage spots, cup holders, and door bins help keep the peace. The 448-litre boot is generous enough for school bags, groceries, and spontaneous “let’s go somewhere” bags.

ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST

For us, safety is non-negotiable, and here the Territory delivers. The Co-Pilot360 suite comes packed with features every parent wants: Adaptive Cruise Control for those longer road trips, Lane Departure Warning for peace of mind, and Blind Spot Monitoring, along with a 360-degree camera that makes parking safer and simpler.

It’s the kind of intelligent support that lets you focus on being a present driver, even when a mini soap opera is playing out in the backseat.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY TECH

In today’s world, tech should enhance the ride, not distract from it. Luckily, Red Velvet is a digital dream. The 10″ infotainment screen handles wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with ease, and there’s wireless charging up front and USB ports all around, so no one argues about battery levels.

Cooled front seats add a touch of luxury, and with climate control doing its job well, everyone stays comfy no matter how chilly it gets outside.

POWER THAT FEELS EFFORTLESS

The 1.8-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine has been a welcome mix of punch and poise. Mated to a smooth seven-speed automatic (that requires some degree of careful right-foot management to compensate for the lack of low-end torque), it handled city traffic, tight turns, and highway merges well enough.

Speaking of being cautious with your right foot, we averaged in the mid-9s for fuel consumption (l/100 km), which feels quite efficient given our urban-heavy routine. It also compares well to its closest segment rival, the Volkswagen T-Roc 2.0TSI 4Motion Design, in this respect. And with winter setting in, the Territory’s composed ride and grip have been especially reassuring on frosty mornings.

LAST WORD

After a few weeks with Red Velvet, it’s safe to say that it has fast become a welcome character in our family’s unfolding story. Although not without its flaws (show me a family that doesn’t have those), it’s stylish, practical, safe, and above all, perfectly suited to both our needs and our quirks.

During our weekday school runs and weekend escapes, the Territory has been a dependable companion. And as winter deepens and the school term stretches on, we’re excited to keep putting Red Velvet through her paces and sharing the journey, one memory at a time.
