Long before fleet management systems, digital dashboards and real-time tracking became part of transport, a truck earned its reputation in a much simpler way. It had to start every morning, carry its load and return ready to do the same again.
Across South Africa, generations of ISUZU trucks have done exactly that. They have moved building materials, delivered goods, supported growing businesses, and covered routes that have changed as the country around them has changed.
Some have now travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres, while others have crossed the one-million-kilometre mark. Through Legends of the Long Run, ISUZU Motors South Africa is recognising the owners, drivers, and vehicles behind those journeys.
REAL STORIES FROM THE ROAD
The campaign focuses on trucks that have remained in service across transport, logistics, construction, and other demanding industries.
Their stories are shaped by long routes, heavy loads and daily operating pressure. Rather than relying only on product claims, ISUZU is using real customer experiences to show what long-term ownership looks like.
For many operators, a truck becomes part of their company’s growth. It supports contracts, serves customers, and keeps schedules on track.
A TRIBUTE TO CUSTOMERS
Legends of the Long Run also acknowledges the role customers have played in ISUZU’s position as South Africa’s number one commercial vehicle brand for 13 consecutive years.
“Our success as a brand is built not only on the strength of our engineering, but on the trust our customers place in us every day,” says Mpho Nkhumeleni, Department Executive for CV Sales at ISUZU Motors South Africa.
“Legends of the Long Run is a celebration of those customers and the incredible journeys they have taken with their trucks that continue to deliver value well beyond expectations.”
That relationship extends beyond the point of sale. Operators expect technical support, parts availability, and a product capable of meeting business demands over many years.
ONE TRUCK, A COMPLETE RESTORATION
As part of the campaign, ISUZU is inviting truck owners to share the stories behind their vehicles.
One standout entry will be selected to receive a complete restoration by the original equipment manufacturer. The winning truck will be carefully refurbished, with the process documented from the first component removed to the final engine start.
For the selected owner, the restoration will give new life to a vehicle that has already served for years. It will also provide a rare opportunity to examine what remains after an extended working life.
THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER
For fleet owners, the true measure of a truck is found in its operating history. Distance travelled, maintenance requirements, completed work, and resale value all contribute towards the ownership picture.
A truck that continues to operate after significant mileage represents more than mechanical endurance, it reflects the decisions made by the owner, the workshop team, and the drivers who kept it on the road.
It also shows why purchase price alone never tells the full story. The value of a commercial vehicle is assessed over time, based on the work it performs and the income it generates.
BUILT THROUGH EXPERIENCE
ISUZU’s commercial vehicle history in South Africa spans more than 60 years, supported by over a century of global engineering experience.
That presence has allowed the company to build relationships across different sectors and operating environments. From urban deliveries to long-distance routes and demanding construction sites, the brand has become part of many businesses that depend on daily mobility.
Legends of the Long Run brings those relationships into focus through the people who have used the trucks over extended periods.
Reaching one million kilometres is an achievement, but the greater story lies in what happened along the way.
It is found in the completed contracts, the delivered goods, the customers served, and the businesses that continued moving because the truck did its job.
That is what gives the campaign its weight. It is not simply about celebrating distance. It is about recognising the contribution one working vehicle can make over many years.
LAST WORD
Legends of the Long Run allows ISUZU customers to tell the stories behind the kilometres. It celebrates trucks that have earned their place through service, consistency and years of demanding work. For ISUZU, the real achievement is not only reaching one million kilometres. It is everything the truck helped build along the way.
