Every December, our team gets vehicles for a longer test period, usually around 4 weeks, and that is when you really get to know what a car is about. Not on a polished launch route or a quick handover, but in traffic, at school drop off, on errands, and in the rhythms of everyday life.
Then the T2 Odyssey arrived in Onyx Black, and the first impression was immediate. This thing has presence. The wheel at the back, the bonnet latches, the upright shape, the whole tough, squared off silhouette all came together in a way that made me laugh and think, yep, this is Voltron, Defender of the Universe. Of course, plenty of people will look at it and draw their own comparisons, and Jetour knows exactly what that boxy, rugged shape suggests. But the T2 does not feel like it is chasing someone else’s identity. It carries that look with confidence and makes it its own.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS LAST
The T2 has real presence. It is the kind of SUV that gets attention everywhere. At the garage, in parking lots, even outside the house, people notice it. They walk around it, trying to place the badge, asking what it is.
I saw this clearly during the school run. One morning after dropping the kids off, a few parents came over to ask the usual questions: what it’s like, who makes it, how it drives, and whether it’s as good as it looks. I actually enjoyed those conversations. You could tell the interest was genuine. It was not just casual talk. There was real curiosity, and that says a lot about the kind of reaction this vehicle creates.
The design plays a big role in that. It is boxy, yes, but not awkward. It feels intentional. The LED lighting, roof rails, panoramic sunroof, and electric tailgate all come standard, which immediately gives it a premium edge. It does not feel like a base product that needs to be built up. It arrives complete.

STEP INSIDE AND IT CHANGES TONE
Inside, the T2 shifts from rugged to refined. The cabin is modern, clean, and more premium than many would expect at this level.
A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits alongside a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen that becomes the focal point of the dashboard. It is responsive, easy to use, and integrates seamlessly with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a wireless charging pad and multiple USB ports, which, in everyday use, simply make life easier.
The Odyssey brings a few added touches that elevate the experience. The 12-speaker Sony sound system stands out immediately. It is one of those systems where you actually want to listen to music properly, not just have it in the background. Multi-colour ambient lighting adds atmosphere, especially at night, and the electrically adjustable passenger seat is a small detail that adds to the sense of completeness.
Ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate control round things off nicely. It feels like a space designed for comfort, not just for show.
IT SETTLES IN WELL
Sometimes vehicles with a strong visual presence struggle to match that energy on the road. The T2 does not. It feels composed and confident from the start.
The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 180 kW, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4WD. In real terms, that means it has more than enough power for everyday driving. It pulls away cleanly, overtakes with confidence, and never feels like it is working too hard.
The gearbox performs well in traffic, which you only really appreciate when you live with a car day to day. Around the neighbourhood, it feels manageable despite its size. Visibility is decent, the driving position is commanding, and it quickly becomes familiar.
On the open road, it settles into a smooth, relaxed drive. Long distances feel easy rather than tiring, which is exactly what you want from something in this segment.
It also fitted into daily life without effort. Beyond the school runs and general errands, some moments stood out more personally. Even my youngest daughter enjoyed her time in it when she joined me for a daddy-daughter day, while shooting the car. Those are the moments that matter. When a vehicle works just as well for your work, your family, and everything in between, you begin to see its true value.
For those who want to explore further, the T2 also has the hardware to back up its rugged image. Features like crawl control and hill descent control give it real off-road ability. It is not just about how it looks. There is substance behind it.

LAST WORD
What makes the Jetour T2 Odyssey work is how complete it feels. It is not just about the design, the technology, or the capability on their own; it is the way everything comes together in one bold, well-judged package.
Jetour has clearly positioned the T2 to disrupt, and after spending proper time with it, that ambition makes sense. In a market full of familiar choices, it brings something different, something that feels fresh and genuinely interesting. That is also why it gets people talking, whether online, in a parking lot, or during the school run.
At R679 900, the Odyssey makes a strong value argument given the level of specification, road presence, and overall experience on offer. Add to that a 7-year or 200 000 km warranty, a 7-year or 75 000 km service plan, and a 10-year or 1 000 000 km engine warranty for the first owner, and the ownership story starts to look just as convincing as the design.
What stood out most for me, though, is how naturally it fitted into everyday life. From school run conversations to time spent on the road, and even moments like driving with my princess, it consistently felt easy to live with.
