The Ford Tourneo Custom has become a favourite among people movers, and with the addition of the Sport and Titanium X models, the Silverton-based brand has taken its game to a new level.
I vividly recall the date of the Ford Tourneo Custom Sport and Titanium X launch, as I had a football semi-final match the night before my scheduled red-eye flight to Durban for the event the next morning. What I did not count on was breaking an arm during the match, so instead of attending the Titanium X launch, I now have to live with a titanium plate in my arm.
Although I did not have the opportunity to sample Ford’s two new people movers on launch day, the offer is highly compelling, with both models retaining the Tourneo’s signature eight-seat layout, supported by a flexible track-mounted system that allows the second and third rows to slide, recline, or be removed completely. Family-friendly ISOFIX points are available across the second and third rows, and entry is made easy with wide sliding doors, a lower floor height, and an integrated sidestep.
Standing under two metres tall, both derivatives remain garage and shopping centre friendly while still delivering generous interior space.

POWERTRAIN AND PERFORMANCE
At the heart of both the Sport and Titanium X is Ford’s 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel engine, delivering 125 kW and 390 Nm, and paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It is a smooth yet capable setup, ideally suited for family trips, as an executive shuttle, or for lifestyle adventures.
Selectable drive modes include Normal, Eco, Slippery, Tow/Haul, and Sport, allowing the driver to tailor the Tourneo’s character to the conditions. Combined with independent rear suspension, the ride is refined, stable and comfortable for all passengers.

DESIGN AND PRESENCE
The two new models are distinct in personality.
The Sport wears its character boldly. A honeycomb grille, body-colour bumpers, rear spoiler, side decals, and signature dual stripes stretching across from the bonnet to the bumper ensure it makes a statement. LED tail lamps and 17″ alloys, with the option of 19s, add further presence. Inside, the Sport trim level features partial leather upholstery, vibrant blue accents and piano black finishes that match its athletic spirit.
The Titanium X turns heads for a different reason – elegance. A distinctive grille design, Matrix LED headlamps and striking 19″ alloys set the tone.

LIFE INSIDE THE TOURNEO
Both models benefit from Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system displayed on a 13″ touchscreen, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A premium 10-speaker system ensures clear sound throughout the cabin.
The Sport keeps things energetic with its design flourishes, while the Titanium X leans into sophistication with luxury finishes, powered front passenger seat adjustment, and a more refined ambience. Both models can be optioned with the Mobile Office pack, which features enhanced lighting, clever storage solutions, USB ports, and even a neatly integrated rubbish bin, demonstrating that Ford is paying attention to how people use their vehicles every day.
Connectivity is another strong point. Through the FordPass app, owners can lock or unlock doors, pre-condition the cabin climate, check fuel or tyre pressure and even schedule maintenance reminders, all from their smartphone.
For safety, Ford has ensured the Sport and Titanium X are equipped to protect their occupants and support their drivers. Both gain Adaptive Cruise Control, Reverse Brake Assist, Collision Mitigation, front and rear parking aids, Blind Spot Information System, dual heated mirrors and lane safety features.
The Titanium X goes further with a 360-degree camera system that simplifies manoeuvres in tight spaces. Alongside the robust body structure and full airbag suite, safety is at the heart of the Tourneo experience.
Ford’s Family Promise backs both models with a four-year or 120,000 km warranty, unlimited roadside assistance, and corrosion protection, plus the option to extend coverage and service plans for up to eight years. With 118 dealers across Southern Africa, support is close at hand wherever your journey takes you.

LAST WORD
Yes, we did win that semi-final, though I was stretchered off after 75 minutes and rushed to hospital. The boys went on to the final without me, and we lost. Guess my presence was missed. But just like my arm now held strong with a titanium plate, the Tourneo Titanium X and its Sport sibling are built on strength, resilience, and purpose.
