It is now the second month with the Ford Territory Titanium 1.8L EcoBoost, affectionately known in our household as Red Velvet. No longer just a long-term test car, she has become a fixture in our daily routine. Enduring everything from early morning school drop-offs to hasty shopping trips (and everything in between), Red Velvet has integrated seamlessly into family life, offering comfort, reliability, and a surprisingly calming presence.
With a household of seven and a schedule that changes by the hour, having a vehicle that supports the pace of family life has been a genuine relief. Whether it’s mum handling the morning school run or dad behind the wheel for a road trip, the Territory continues to deliver on what matters most: ease of use, generous space, and a solid safety offering.
COMFORT THAT KEEPS EVERYONE SMILING
Inside, the Territory continues to impress with its practical layout and welcoming design. Soft-touch surfaces, a panoramic sunroof, and a quiet cabin combine to create a sense of calm – even when the rear bench becomes a chorus of snack requests and overlapping conversations.
The three youngest family members who travel in the back daily have more than enough room to stretch out. The reclining rear seats have quickly become a favourite feature on longer drives, encouraging the odd nap or simply a more relaxed posture. USB ports within easy reach, accessible cup holders, and well-thought-out storage spaces go a long way in keeping the cabin organised – a small victory when travelling with kids.
Up front, the seats provide ample support and comfort for long spells in traffic or while running errands. The dual-zone climate control system handles cold starts without fuss, warming the interior evenly and with minimal delay.
A recent weekend away gave the Territory’s practicality a proper workout. With three 65-centimetre suitcases, four duffel bags, and extras including a picnic basket, the 448-litre boot swallowed the lot without adjusting seat positions or obstructing rearward visibility. The load area is wide and well-shaped, making packing straightforward and avoiding the usual repacking shuffle mid-journey. For a family-focused SUV in this segment, the Territory delivers impressive utility.

PERFORMANCE FOR LIFE
On the move, the 1.8L EcoBoost turbocharged engine remains a highlight. It strikes a good balance between power and efficiency, and when paired with the 7-speed automatic transmission, delivers smooth progress in traffic and on the open road. It’s easy to settle into a relaxed rhythm behind the wheel, whether navigating city streets or heading out on longer drives.
Average fuel consumption has hovered around 9.4 l/100 km – reasonable given the urban-heavy use case. Between school runs, daily errands, and evening activities, the Territory remains composed and light on its feet.
THE QUIET GUARDIAN
Safety remains a strong suit for the Territory. Ford’s Co-Pilot360 system includes helpful features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. The latter, in particular, has made tight school parking manoeuvres far less stressful.
These systems work unobtrusively, always present but never intrusive. For parents, having that layer of reassurance built into the vehicle’s daily operation adds real value.
THE ARRIVAL OF THE DARK EDITION
Ford has broadened the Territory range with the Titanium Dark Edition – a sportier take on the existing package, featuring blacked-out detailing, darker alloy wheels, and a more assertive exterior look. It’s a welcome addition that caters to a buyer with a sharper taste in styling, without overshadowing the Titanium’s family-focused appeal. **(See our full launch report on page 42.)
Red Velvet, with her warm Ruby Red paint and subtle chrome accents, remains elegant and approachable. The Dark Edition adds another flavour to the mix, offering buyers a more urban-focused alternative without diluting the strengths of the original.

LAST WORD
Two months into the journey, the Ford Territory has proven its worth. It has adapted to our pace, blended into our schedule, and delivered consistently on space, comfort, and capability.
As spring nears and the family calendar gets busier, we look forward to many more miles and memories with Red Velvet. For now, she continues to deliver on her brief – not just fitting into our garage, but into daily life as well.
